Fasset App Feature Development & UX Research
Project Overview
Fasset is a global crypto exchange platform with a mission to drive digital asset adoption in emerging markets and build a better future with it. This project aimed to design and develop additional-localized features (deposit & withdraw fiat) of an existing Fasset app for Indonesian market. The project focuses on creating a user-friendly and intuitive experience for users. It involved conducting massive UX research (usability testing, user survey, in-depth interview, UX professional review) to understand the frustrations, needs, and behaviors of potential users, as well as to get a comprehensive assessment from professionals, and using this information as a foundation for the next product iteration.

Role and Responsibilities
In this project, I was responsible to work on the deposit and withdrawal feature. However, after the development, I worked together with another designer on the research process. I also worked closely with the PM throughout the end-to-end process, who also participated directly in user interviews.
Challenge
As the requirement came to do comprehensive research on the entire app with dozens of users expected to join the research, it became challenging when we were expected to obtain extensive feedback in a two-week time span.
Design Process
The existing app was developed by an agency for a global market before I joined the company. As the business has grown, localization features for specific markets such as Indonesia have become an essential requirement to fit into the market, including on- and off-ramping operations.
The product development started after the product team secured an agreement with the financial service provider from Indonesia. The design process consists of wireframing, crafting hi-fi designs, prototyping, and lots of discussion with the project manager and engineering team to ensure that the design complies with the payment infrastructure established by the engineers.
UX Research
At the end of the process, it is important to follow up on the final design through UX research, such as usability testing. However, at that moment, as we were preparing to soft-launch the product in Indonesia, the requirement expanded to include a full test of the app, not just the deposit and withdraw feature. Additionally, we had to onboard several categories of testers for the research, including Indonesian participants, global participants, and UX professionals.
To reach the wider scope (high quantity) as requested without losing the quality of the feedback, we decided to use various UX research methods:
•
User Survey
We conduct user surveys to gather large amounts of data quickly and inexpensively for two groups of users (Indonesia & Global). We asked them to complete a questionnaire about their experiences, attitudes, and satisfaction toward the app.
Tools: Google Forms, Maze
•
Usability Testing
We conduct one-on-one sessions with 8 Indonesian users where they were asked to complete tasks using Fasset app, while we observe and record their behaviors and interactions. The purpose is to identify and fix any problems or issues that users may encounter while using the app or feature, to make it more user-friendly and efficient.
Tools: Google Meet, Maze
•
In-depth Interview
In order to gather detailed and qualitative information about the experiences, attitudes, and behaviors they performed in the usability testing, we follow it up with an interview session for each tester. The purpose is to gain a deep understanding of a user's needs, motivations, goals, and expectations, and to identify opportunities for improving the app and its service offering.
Tool: Google Meet
•
UX Review
Lastly, we conduct a UX review by professional UX designers and researchers to evaluate the app from the perspective of its user experience. The purpose of the review is to identify areas for improvement in the user experience as well as the user interface and to provide recommendations for how to enhance the usability, effectiveness, and overall satisfaction of the product or service.
Tool: Google Docs
In the initial process, I prepared most of the documents used to run the research, including the usability testing and interview script and guideline, the UX review documentation form handed out to the reviewers, and also composed the report of all the research we conducted.
Data Processing & Findings
After comprehensive research on the app, we were able to gather lots of valuable feedback, insights, suggestions, and recommendations across all categories of participants. The following steps were taken to process the data:
•
Collect and Organize
•
Clusterization
•
Problem Identification
•
Priozitization
•
Report and Suggestion
After analyzing the data, notable feedbacks were able to be identified. Some of them included:
•
Lack of a Homepage on the app that leads to navigation problem
•
Unfamiliar flow and feature placement for sell
•
Lack of security layer to confirm buy/sell transaction
•
Unclear direction after added bank account in the withdrawal process
•
Review on UI aspects related to information design, labeling, navigation, accessibility, etc
Generally, users find that the app works fine for its intended purpose, but many improvements are needed to adjust the flow based on common user behavior and the use of crypto apps in Indonesia. In addition, with the current app, most users would prefer to stay with their current platform rather than use our app. This kind of feedback is tough to hear, but it's the truth and we need it to accelerate our product development.
Conclusion
The proposed solution has been delivered to the stakeholder and has been received. Currently, the product team is in the initial process of making a significant transformation to the app that will utilize the research outcome as the foundation to improve the Fasset app, both in terms of user experience and interface. This will make a big difference from the first development, as data-centric and user-centric approaches will be applied in the upcoming project. With this perspective, the next version of the app is expected to fit the target market
